Setup steps, the fixes for the problems people actually report, and how to delete everything the app knows about you. If none of this helps, email us and include your device model, your Android or iOS version, and what you expected to happen.
Setting the app up (Android)
WaitAIMinute needs three things before it can pause anything. The app walks you through them on first run; you can revisit them in Settings → permissions.
| Step | Where |
|---|---|
| 1. Display over other apps | Lets the app draw the pause screen on top of the app it is pausing. Settings → Apps → WaitAIMinute → Display over other apps. |
| 2. Accessibility service | Lets the app notice which app is in the foreground. Settings → Accessibility → Installed apps → WaitAIMinute → On. |
| 3. Usage access | Lets the app read how long you have used an app today, and draw your report. Settings → Apps → Special app access → Usage access → WaitAIMinute → Allow. |
You stay in control: turn the accessibility service off and the app stops pausing anything.
“The app isn’t blocking anything”
Work through these in order — they cover almost every report.
- Is enforcement on? Check the home screen, and that the app does not say it is paused.
- Are all three permissions above still granted? Some phones revoke accessibility after an update.
- Is the app excluded from battery optimisation? Settings → Apps → WaitAIMinute → Battery → Unrestricted. On Samsung, check Settings → Battery → Background usage limits and remove the app from “Sleeping apps”. On Xiaomi, OnePlus or Oppo, enable “Autostart” for the app.
- Has today's limit actually been reached? On Android the app counts usage for the whole day, including time before you changed the limit, so a fresh setup mid-day can already be over it.
“My usage looks wrong”
Android's usage data comes from the system. If the phone was restarted or the app was force-stopped, today's total is rebuilt from the app's local log on the next launch — give it a minute. Time spent in another app while the pause screen is showing does not count.
“I can’t unblock an app”
The unlock screen grants a fixed window (15 or 30 minutes). If nothing is paused, the screen says so. If an app was removed from your selection, the unlock is refused on purpose — add it again in the picker.
Your data, and how to delete it
There is no account and no server copy of your usage data. Everything the app knows about you lives in the app's storage on your device.
| What | Where it is | How to delete it |
|---|---|---|
| App selection, limits, unlock windows, preferences | App storage on your device | Settings → Reset this device in the app, or uninstall the app |
| Usage totals and the local activity log | App storage on your device | Same as above |
| Crash and diagnostic reports | Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) | Email us with the date and your device model; we delete the matching reports, and they expire automatically after 90 days |
| Update identifier (random per-install ID) | Expo / EAS | Uninstalling the app stops it being used; email us if you want it removed from Expo’s records |
Reset this device in the app's settings erases the selection, limits, usage history and activity log immediately. Uninstalling removes everything the app stored. Because there is no account, there is no account-deletion step beyond that. For an access, correction, deletion or objection request under data-protection law, email hr@outside.studio and we will respond within 30 days.
